Slow download speed (wireless) for MacBook/ Firefox...?

I am getting a ridiculously slow internet speed on my new Mac. I tried to download some new programs and the download in Firefox would start at 104k and then go all the way down to 7k. Safari doesn't even start downloads... I downloaded Speed Download and that seems to help, but my pages still load slow and I can only view about the first 15 seconds of embedded videos. Is there anyway I can fix Firefox to run faster? Also, is there anyway to make my downloads run faster without Speed Download, as my trial is almost up and I don't want to buy it if I don't have to?

You probably have Quicktime as your default music player or something. Do you have Quicktime on your computer?

If so, open it up, click on Edit, click on Preferences, click on Quicktime Preferences. Under the File Types tab, uncheck MP3 and then click OK.

that completely depends on what program is playing the file. limewire (sharware), and file download programs like that allow you to 'preview' the selected file (music, video, etc), and they usually play in windows media player. if your downloading the file off the internet (from a site), i really cant help you there =-(

I have tries Internet Download Manger to download files from rapidshare but they won't download . When i putthe file to download it download 5kbs of something which i can't open. i had this same problem click on start and go to control panel then click on network connection once at the screen click on your active network connection and choose an option to the left called "repair connection" and wait till it completes also try resetting the modem by unplugging it from the wall for a few seconds and plugging it back in.

Limewire wont download?

Hello, I previously asked this question but nothing helped.

I have 200gigs in my C drive.

I have Limewire send my downloads to my C drive, however, when I try to download very large files (around 900mb or so) Limewire wont download--it's not a source problem because many other users are downloading it as well.

My internet connection can handle downloading such big files but Limewire just wont execute the download.

However, if I look for smaller files (200mb) or so it downloads perfectly. Anyone know what the problem may be?

i tried downloading a file from flashget

the file is 4.18GB but the problem is that flashget stops downloading for days...

the first time it downloaded like 200MB and then it stopped for the whole day... i left it this way and it downloaded like 700 MB in 1 week

then i downloaded the flashget full version and it downloaded up to 1.41GB in 1 day

BTW i know about the hour between every 300 mega and i paused like 2 hours after it downloaded 250MB but still... it doesnt download, so i tried to reset my modem and erase the coockies... still nothing, and then i tried to reset my computer but it still aint working

i have used Firefox download manager,

its too slow for me, because when downloading speed slows down, thn the download manager hangs itself and after a while it shows that the download is completed.How downloading file is not yet completed.

Bcz i live in Pakistan, and here downloading speed is not so much obvious !

And the same problem is coming with FLOCK.

As i am trying to download data from RapidShare.de and it doesnt support download managers/accelerators, so i waz looking for built-in download managers in web browsers.

Unfortunately, the same problem is arising with Flock web browser.

I also have tried some download managers/crackers for rapidshare like ones Rapget,Universal Dowloader....but they also very slow....and they dont even connect to the server....!!!

Please tell me what to do.

Any suggesstions will be ofcourse appreciating.

Unfortunately Abbas, rapidshare is almost impossible to exploit. Their developers have implemented new codes that prevent its users from faking connections, using miscellaneous applications to disable count downs and others things of that nature. With that in mind, there are no download managers that will continue incomplete files.

1. for example, i download an attachment from an email sent to me. the file will appear in the desktop, and sometimes even, downloads are not finished. so of course, the supposedly downloaded files wont open in that case. when i check the download progress in the download window (tools%26gt;downloads) it's empty.

2. when i also save photos from the internet (by right-clicking it and then clicking save as) it would not appear in the target location, in short, it was not downloaded at all. so what i do is copy it and then paste it in paint and then save it instead. that's too much of a hassle for me. haha and since my download window doesnt show me anything anymore, the photo im trying to download would not appear in it either.

what's wrong with my firefox? i tried reinstalling it, but the problem's still there.

You need to tick the "remember what I have downloaded" in preferences as well as "show downloads while downloading" in the General Tab in Preferences.

hi! i think you can try to use some plugins of firefox. for download, you can try "FlastGot", it can recognize the download manager in your computer. and you can download another one called "Super Drag And Go", just press the image you want to save and drag your mouse, and the images will be saved.

28k dialup? omg, seriously, u need fast speed internet. get comcast cable. they r way faster than dsl, at least at my house, dsl doesnt even work at my place. if u get cable, the download should be done in like 10 min.

File Download Time Out Problem and Questions on Recovery??

Hi all,

The other day I was downloading the latest version of America's Army (3 GB, took like 5 hours, and I have superfast broadband).....anyway, the download box was open and slowly downloading it. I saw it get to 88% and then got back on my IE7 browser, and accidently refreshed the page that started the download. The yellow bar saying that the download was blocked until I allow it came up, so the download didn't start again, but in the download box it kinda did. It sat on idle for about an hour, with 55 mins left to go, and then I got an error message that it timed out and when I clicked ok it cancelled the download. You can imagine how angry I was %26gt;.%26lt; Anyway, my questions are: Why did it time out, can I get the 88% back and keep on downloading it or do I have to start again, and lastly because it timed out and did not complete 100%, does that still use up my download limit set by my ISP???

I don't run windows, so I can't give you exact commands, but windows has a console task scheduler (AT) I'd actually use. In Unix, there is a command called wget, and you can retrieve content 'wget http://blablabla.iso" from a command line with this utility. This seems to be the cheapest, most stable and simplest way of doing what you're talking about doing. Look up wget for windows--it exists--and either use your task scheduler (in control pannel), or you can read the helpfiles on the AT command. That's typing the command: AT inside a command prompt window. It won't be a nifty fancy graphical program but I everything works best in its simplest form. :)

PS: AT is an older way of scheduling tasks, task scheduler is the newer graphic gimmicks, so read about them both and pick the one that makes you happy. (Plus, I'm not sure if windows XP kept AT around, but it'd have been pointless to remove it.

been using it for years, you can stop / start downloads and it does em in chunks , so say ur getting a rubbish connection , it latches on to 2+ instead =)

and when it says "unlimited" it means to their fair usage policy.. they get annoyed normally if you do such things between say 5-6 pm and 10-11pm , they class that as "peak" hours.. but if ur downloading a silly amount and its going into a LOT of gb's.. the isp will probably turf you off it or ask you to upgrade your connection.

While downloading some movies using Firefox Browser and wireless connection , from some Websites having a load of problems. Often at completion find some are only partially downloaded and cut out somewhere during download.

Difficult to decide whats causing it as some sites download no problems, but others often cut out.

And why don't these Websites support continued download, as the PtoP sites like Emule etc.?

Every time movie download cut out, had to start all over again-very frustrating when , as in one case, movie was 98% downloaded!

I have wireless internet (IEEE 802.11g USB Wireless LAN Adapter #4) Isn't 802.11g suppose to have a speed of 54mbps but i have 11mbps. My download speed is VERY slow. For other people it takes about 40 minutes to download this game called Audition. It took me 7 hours! I was downloading at a speed of around 45kbps. Torrent downloads download at like 0.1-10.0 kbps. The fastest recently was only around 45kbps. Also online videos take forever to load. Before I could just watch everything without waiting and my download speed was really fast but now everything is slow. Can someone tell me what the problem is and what I can do?

if its a Wi Fi thing make sure some1 else isnt your internet connection... trust me once 2 people or more start sharing the same bandwidth it starts getting slow... im talking slow..

Amazon mp3 download messed up on me, what do I do?

Besides contact customer service. I guess I will if all else fails. Was doing the pepsi bottle cap promotion and using the points to download a song. When I chose my song and cashed in my points, the download window appeared on my computer. It asked if I wanted to open the file up in amazon mp3 downloader or just download the file. I chose to download the file, but when I saw that I wasnt downloading an actual mp3 file, I cancelled. When I did Amazon showed that I downloaded my song, but I never did. I looked in their FAQs and they dont cover songs that didnt actually download. What can I do...is there a secret file somewhere on my computer?

I would keep trying to contact amazon. Personally, I never use itunes or amazon downloads because if your computer's hard drive fails, then you are out of luck and without music. The best way to get music is to buy used cds off of amazon or ebay. You will still end up paying about a dollar a song, but you'll get other songs that you may find you'll like. In regards to the pepsi promotion that you have, it sounds like you canceled the download before it finished, so the song is probably not on your hard drive.Good luck dealing with the big companies.

Download speed manager for All!?

Does anyone know of a software that enables me to set different max download speed for each file? I have a slow connection with a max download speed of 33KB therefore I want to divide that speed for:-

1- a Bittorrent download that is slow and downloads at a max speed of 15KB.

2- a Direct http link that downloads at a max speed of 33KB but I need to set it to 18KB.

3- when am not download from that direct http link I will be downloading from an FTP I also want to download that at a max speed of 18KB.

So as you can see my priority is to download the bitttorrent file but since it only downloads at 15KB I want to download something else while that one is still downloading.

I use a BitComet client, I tried to set the speed but whenever I start my donwloads from either the direct link or the FTP it drops down from 15KB to 2KB-6KB.

Any help is much appreciated!

Sims 2 Download probs?

O.K, I'm in a MAJOR jam with this Sims 2 downloads from www.vitasims2.com:

No matter WHAT, WHAT WHAT wwWWWWHHHHAT I do:

A.) Opening and saving the files in My Documents, EA Games, Downloads

B.) Unzipping them from desktop to downloads folder

I can ONLY download a "collection" file and not the actual things. Collection files are about 8.86 KB. I get the collection file, but no items and there is no other button that will allow me to do so on the site. Anywho, I am getting BIG TIME frustrated, even the administration said: "All internet browsers aren;t the same and you need to download from internet explorer... "which made little to no sense because you can't download jack WITHOUT internet explorer. Anyone who is very familiar with Vita Sims, is there a "secret" button that allows you to download actual things and not just the file, because the collection file is in my game alright... except I just end up with a child's playbox or an urn instead.

What are you trying to download from the site? If it's clothes, you need to make sure you have meshes that go with the outfits, if they're needed.

If you are downloading an OBJECT you need to have the color enabler package, it says so on the site:

IMPORTANT: You must have Colour Enabler Packages-CEP

The CEP is linked on the site, wherever the file is needed.

Their site works just like other sites, click download, SAVE the file to your desktop, then unzip. They use Winrar for a lot of their files, so you'll have to use that to get some of the stuff to show up. Then, just put everything into your downloads foler. If you have all of the correct files and meshes and stuff, the files should show up with no problem.

Since you didn't specify what you were trying to download, you just said in your last sentence above "I just ended up with a child's playbox or an urn instead", that makes me believe you were trying to download an object and not clothes. Go back and do what I suggested above and see what happens. If that doesn't work, it's best to discuss it further wtih that site's admins and have them walk you through the download process.

When i download a game it goes into D drive instead of C drive?

i've been trying to download world of war craft onto my new computer and i tell it to download into the C drive but it doesn't, instead it goes and downloads it straight to the D drive and runs out of space so it wont even finish downloading, i have a 72G Cdrive and a 2g D drive i want to download in C drive but it doesn't it keeps going to D drive and saying i have no disk space left, how do i get it to download into the c drive or how do i make my C drive the primary Drive to download things into. There is no way to download any of those shows legally because they are all copywritten, and of course the downloads for sites like that take so long because they are going through your internets firewall and through your internet browser that isn't made for downloading huge files. The closest thing to what you want is online movie viewing sites that are perfectly legal because your simply viewing the content that others have posted and not downloading it. YouTube does not want their videos to be downloaded, that is why there is no option for it. There are some sites that offer downloading of YouTube's videos, and they are all taken down shortly after they go online because they are sued by YouTube for copyright violation. Anything uploaded to YouTube becomes their property, and if they don't want to make it available for download, then that is their choice. Anyone answering this question with an answer you are looking for would be in violation of federal copyright laws, so I doubt you will find an answer here.
