How do i download stuff into the my sims2 game?

how do i download stuuf into the sims2 game i have went to some sites were u can download stuuf and this is what i did.i saw an object i liked so i wanted to download it to the sims2 game and the object did not have a mesh or anything so anyway there was a button that said download so i clicked it and the options were save,open,close, so i clicked save and it did so i went into my download folder and there it was and i right clicked on it and i clickes extrack and i went back on to my sims2 game and it was not there i also tryed downloading hair,clothes and stuff like that what do i do HELP?
